I have seen some discussion around this subject, but nothing that directly addresses the best approach to accumulating Tannin. The following is my approach: Tannin Collection Optimization 1. Find a mostly level area, nearby but outside where you plan to build or farm, that is hospitable to tree growth.

Select an optimal 'best growth' area using Z - C keys to target with the Tannin collection option. Once you have an area selected, begin culling the non Tannin producing trees anything other than Oak or Fir from your Tannin circle and then cull any non-tannin new trees that grow back.

You can either hit the ancient ruins just south east of the settlement, or even better, you can head north-east and follow the drawn area. Create a loop here and hit all of the spawn points!

Tannin is used to turn hides into leather. After you skin animals in New World, you can bring their hide to a Tannery in town and refine the hide into a leather, depending on the tier.
