Retired: What Now? What you saw in theaters in was NOT the version Snyder intended to show. That cut is coming to HBO Max soon, and the book reveals how that happened. But now that we are getting closer to the release date of the book, Release the Snyder Cut , I wanted to share a few of the things that I learned while piecing this unprecedented story together.
But I also want to pull back the curtain that hangs over facts that the RTSC movement knows, but might not fully understand. The reason that Zack Snyder gave for leaving Justice League had to do with a tragedy in the Snyder family. No one could ever fault him for that decision. In answering, Snyder dug deeper into the real reason that he left Justice League in , clarifying:. I just was kind of done with it. I was in this place of [knowing] my family needs me more than this bullshit, and I just need to honor them and do the best I can to heal that world.
I can't even imagine what it's like to get The Snyder Cut made if you're Toby Emmerich and watch this thing happening because basically what The Snyder Cut is, it basically says 'Everyone at the highest levels of Warner Bros. Burnett elaborated that it went further back than Justice League and that the poor treatment began after the release of Man of Steel :. They didn't want to push their release date, they fucked Zack Snyder at every turn because after Man of Steel came out everyone was Monday morning quarterbacking and everyone wanted to change this and change that.
They're looking at the dailies, and they're like 'Oh, well, this isn't the light and lively movie that we thought we were going to get. The studio really messed up. They really messed up.
And they did it to somebody that they had a longstanding relationship with which was even worse. The project is a reminder of how poorly Zack Snyder was treated by Warner Bros. Perhaps it would make sense why Zack Snyder seems to be migrating to Netflix to start up his own franchise with them, but this logic with Emmerich doesn't make much sense.
Just as the pandemic has, on occasion, given the rest of us time to pause and reflect on our place in the world, it gave Snyder time and space thanks to the rise of streaming to produce a film he probably never would have made the first time around. And it is better — much, much better — than we had any right to expect. Compared with the theatrical release, directed by Joss Whedon after Snyder felt compelled to step away from the project after the death of his daughter, the new Justice League is a sombre yet operatic affair, reflecting the sheer breadth and impact of the events on display.
Yet it only occasionally feels bloated and overblown. We get a better backstory for what villain Steppenwolf is doing trying to conquer Earth in the first place, as well as our first glimpse of his boss Darkseid.
